StringMasters will be held in the Research Center on Information and Communication Technologies (CITIC), close to the Faculty of Computer Science on the Elviña campus of the University of A Coruña. A Coruña is one of the main cities of Galicia (north-west Spain) and a popular tourist destination for sailing, scuba diving, seafood and surfing. The symbol of the city is the Tower of Hercules, an active lighthouse dating from the Roman era (at least) that legend says was built by Hercules to celebrate his victory over the giant Geryon. The city is full of excellent beaches, restaurants, tapas bars, museums and sports facilities, and can be reached easily from its own airport or from the nearby (and famous) city of Santiago de Compostela.
A Coruña's airport (LCG) is located 8 km outside the city. There is a bus service every 30 minutes or every hour on the weekend, and taxis cost about €15. Santiago's airport (SCQ) is located about 65 km from A Coruña but may offer more convenient connections. A taxi from Santiago to A Coruña should cost about €55 and take about 45 minutes. Taking a bus and a train will cost about €10; the time will depend on the bus and train timetables. Other less convenient options include flying to Madrid or Porto, Portugal, and renting a car or taking a bus or train.
There is a frequent bus service (marked UDC) from the Plaza de Pontevedra in the center of the city (one block east from the Hotel Riazor) to the Elviña campus. It runs from 7.20 to 23.05 every 5 to 10 minutes on normal weekdays, takes about 20 minutes and costs €1.30 each way (keep the ticket for the duration of the trip). Watch out for the ring of iron plates the bus partly circles on its way into the campus (see below). People are very friendly in A Coruña so, if you're unsure, ask another passenger or the driver where to get off for the Elviña campus.
Some activities and lunches will be held in the Faculty of Computer Science. From there, you can go to the CITIC (5 minutes walking).
